This is a really unusual hat design probably from the late 1940s to early 1950s and almost like a fascinator. It is made up of folded velvet ribbon in wide bands made into a circular hat topper. It is comprised of the most gorgeous coloured velvet - pale lilac, a darker lilac and pink. There is a bow detail to the top and a prong set pink rhinestone button too. Most hat toppers of the day were designed for formal events and were particularly popular worn to the back of the head. This piece can be positioned towards the front of the head at a jaunty angle for a more modern look.
There is a net veil attached to the underside of the topper. The underside has been lined in pewter jacquard floral fabric outlined with a grosgrain ribbon. There are no designer labels present but the piece is well made and possibly even designer. It is in extraordinary vintage condition with the velvet fresh and bright. There are no breaks in the veiling and this could easily be removed if desired.
